If you are looking for some interesting and creative portrait shots or wanting to incorporate a fun and whimsical flare to your photo session, try incorporating these items to
- Make your photos more interesting!
- Also to bring out those genuine smiles and laughs
Bubbles
Feel like a kid again when using bubbles. I recently brought this along to a family shoot and the children loved playing with it. Bubbles give off beautiful colours when the light hits them and if you are lucky, they sometimes fall in the best positions for that once in a lifetime shot.
Playing Cards
I never thought I would see such joy from my clients when I asked them to flip the cards in the air and watch them fall. Truly one of the more magical and fun experiences. A few flips of the cards may be needed, so I do recommend having more than one pack of playing cards ready on hand.
Flowers
You can never go wrong incorporating this beautiful feature into any image. There are so many ways to incorporate flowers into your photoshoot. Whether its one flower or a full bouquet, the ideas are infinite with this accessory in your photoshoot. Include your favourite flower in your photoshoot, or if you are doing a couple shoot, have your partner present you with your favourite flower. A timeless classic in creating countless creative opportunities.
Umbrellas
Umbrellas offer a unique aesthetic. I love shadows, so I do enjoy a very large umbrella covering the eyes and having only the lips revealed. However, if doing an outdoor shoot, having everyone with an open umbrella and jumping can create an imaginative effect of flying or taking off. Mary Poppins style. Another added touch, though messy, is to put confetti in an open umbrella and have the person swing it over as a rain of sparkles falls over them. I recommend a baby pool or something underneath to catch all of this, it does get everywhere! I am looking forward to my next shoot where I can add to this feature to willing customers!
Mirrors
“Mirror, mirror on the wall…” a perfect feature to create a whimsical and magical image. Mirrors provide wonderful reflections of the space around the subject if not the subject itself. Using multiple exposure can also create an eerie portrait as one looks back at you, but you are not looking into the mirror. I bit of editing may be needed, but a fun addition to any portrait session.
LED panels and torches
Another fun activity with endless possibilities. Using torches and low shutter speed, one can create any light painting image. I few tries will be required to get exactly what you want, but totally worth it. Also, a great activity, if there is more than one person in the photoshoot, for each one to take turns to draw the light around each other. To add even more delight, colour can be added and the results, always shine bright!
